Notice of Hearing and Letting

The Southeast Iowa Multi-County Solid Waste Agency (SEMCO) is issuing a Request For Proposals (RFP) for its landfill operations.

General Nature of Public Improvement. Landfill site operation and maintenance at the SEMCO Landfill, which shall include the following: daily operation activities pertaining to landfilling municipal and construction and demolition (C&D) solid wastes, petroleum-contaminated soil processing, special waste handling and disposal, daily litter pick up, daily checks on leachate collection system, landfill cap maintenance on all closed portions of the landfill, site safety program development and implementation for all contractor employees, other requirements as required by regulations or regulating agencies, and miscellaneous activities.

Copies of the RFP documents are on file at the SEMCO Landfill. Copies of the RFP documents may be obtained for this project from Bill Sloop, SEMCO Landfill, 29997 Hwy 78, Richland, Iowa 52585, (319) 456-6171 for a fee of $50.00, none of which will be refunded.

Sealed bids for the work must be filed before 1:00 pm Monday April 12th, 2010 at the SEMCO Landfill, at which time they will be opened and tabulated. SEMCO will consider the bids on or before April 21, 2010.

SEMCO reserves the right to reject any and all bids and to waive informalities in the bids. Except where SEMCO exercises the right reserved herein to act otherwise, if the contract is to be awarded, it will be awarded to the Bidder whose evaluation by SEMCO indicates to SEMCO that the award will be in the best interests of SEMCO.


Wood Waste Diversion Program at SEMCO Landfill

SEMCO now has a wood waste diversion program!

All Lumber, Pallets, and brush may be disposed of at SEMCO Landfill for $30 per ton. You can save $25 per ton off the tipping fee by sorting your waste and loading it separately. Eligible Materials must be free from contamination (Nails, screws, and staples are ok) and not exceed 10 feet in length. Contaminated loads dumped on the wood waste will be charged the regular tipping fee of $55 per ton plus a $100 clean up fee. 

Wood waste will be ground into wood chips and be made available free of charge. 

You must load your own wood chips. Please call the landfill at 319-456-6171 to inquire if any chips are available before you drive out .
